Breast Cancer: Meet Five Inspiring Women who Battled it
- October 26, 2016
“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have”, says cancer fighter Cayla Mills. Although breast cancer is the most common type of cancer that affects 1 in 8 women in their lives, many women have bravely fought it, proving one more time how strong a woman’s will and determination can be. In honor of all the women who have fought or are fighting cancer, Esposa would like to extend its support, respect, and admiration, advocating their journey and struggles. Here are some inspirational stories of triumphant women we look up to on the occasion of this breast cancer awareness month.
Our first mention goes to Giuliana Rancic, the E! news star and red carpet host. While trying to conceive, Giuliana discovered she had an early-stage tumor. She did a lumpectomy and then a double mastectomy to try to eradicate the disease. In many interviews, she talks about how tough her journey was in conquering cancer. She now emphasizes on how cancer made her slow down and made her and husband, Bill, appreciate life more.
Second we will talk about Angie, the gorgeous actress whose mother died fighting cancer, took the decision to be proactive and to minimize the risks as much as she could. She had a preventive mastectomy, thanks to which her chances of cancer dropped from 86% to 5%.
Jolie urges other women, in particular those with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, to seek medical advice so they could make their own informed choice about what steps to take.
Another hero we would like to mention is Kylie Minogue, the Australian singer. Although Kylie had a strenuous journey as she was first misdiagnosed, she persisted in looking into her lump to get the right diagnosis. She fought cancer so bravely and now advocates for healthy lifestyles and persistent diagnosis.
One more warrior we look up to is Sheryl Crow, the country music singer. She battled cancer with minimally invasive surgery and radiation and is now involved in raising awareness for breast cancer. She currently follows a healthy lifestyle and is cautious about her health.
Who doesn’t love Cynthia Nixon? We definitely do! The Sex and the City star, whose mother also battled cancer, did not initially want to go public with her disease being wary about the stigma associated with it. However, she later did and became a strong advocate and activist for breast cancer awareness and victims.
A further impressive woman we would like to inspire you with is Nina Abi Fadel, Lebanese, who battled cancer for a year. Her journey was charged with a dense dose of chemotherapy treatment and aggressive radiation therapy but she chose to follow complementary therapies like acupuncture, yoga and adopting new eating habits that helped her considerably. She is now a strong activist for breast cancer; supporting women everywhere through her campaign You Are Stronger and urging them to be aware in their treatment and replace fear by available options to maintain a good quality of life.
