Let’s get one thing straight, I don’t believe that any piece of clothing should be purchased just because it’s trending this season! When I suggest ideas and outfits, whether it’s a wedding or evening dress, I choose it based on it’s durability and versatility. I personally wouldn’t want to spend any amount on something I’ll wear once and stash in my closet. That’s exactly why when it comes to wedding guest dresses, I take these points into consideration before choosing my outfit.
Over the course of time, I’ve been making it my goal to wear my evening gowns more often. Even though I’ve succeeded for the most part, I still felt like re-wearing that long dress was like a choir and not a choice! It’s at that moment that I realized that the problem wasn’t in my decision rather than in the dress itself. From this moment on I decided to start shopping wisely and cautiously! Which brings us to the 5 new outfit ideas I’ll be rocking this season, more than once!!
1- The simpler the better!
In order to be able to break the cycle, we need to start by widening our options and allowing ourselves to reflect our personality in what we wear. Forget about these “outdated” wedding guest etiquette that made us look like actual 60s actors! Gone are the days when women were expected to wear a long ruffled dress with floral patterns and embroidery. Heck, even men are ditching those boring matching suits for mismatched blazers and casual pants.
Let us set the scene for you, shall we? You’re invited to a friend’s outdoor wedding and you don’t know what to wear. So you pass by one of our boutiques and find this satin one-shoulder dress with a side slit! You might be thinking, it’s too simple for a wedding but it’s really not.
You see, these types of dresses are awesome because you can choose to either dress them up or down. With the right accessories, shoes and bag you’ll be all set for your wedding! This dress can also be worn for let’s say, Valentine’s day! You can even wear it for a gala dinner or a fancy event. And if you’re tired of its length, you can simply visit your local tailor and shorten it!
2- Go Mini or go home!
Who said all wedding guests should wear a floor-length gown? The number one dress style that can be easily recycled is a mini or short evening dress! Just like the previous style, a short dress can be dressed up or down as well, all by choosing the right add-ons and hairstyle!
This mini cocktail gown is perfect for a wedding, a party, a dinner or even a night out! Getting an outfit similar to this dress will guarantee that you’ll be wearing it again.

3- Get a versatile gown!
Sometimes getting a traditional wedding guest dress might be a necessity depending on the venue and the wedding theme. Say you’re invited to a royal themed wedding, you wouldn’t want to show up in a simple cocktail dress! You have to dress for the occasion! In that vain, we’ve got the perfect gown for you, among many others.
This gown is perfect for a royal themed wedding, a classy look for sure! Its ruffled accents on its off-the-shoulder long sleeves give it a touch of modernity. A perfect mix between the trendy vibes and the traditional looks for that specific event.
4- Go for a cocktail gown!
If you’re not into long evening dresses with a huge train, and you’re not comfortable wearing a mini dress: Cocktail dresses! These dresses are literally a lifesaver because they give you that dressy, formal look all while staying relaxed. Besides, a short dress will more likely be useful in your closer than a gigantic gown which takes up a lot of place. You can always look for a classic color to get more use out of it!
You can get a similar dress to this in a golden or silver color even. It’s easily paired with any shoe style and accessories.
5- Dare to be sexy!
Now, for the best part, dare to be sexy! you don’t need to go over the top to look risqué. A simple side slit and a pop of color will do the trick, especially of a summer wedding. One of my top picks and a personal favorite is this two-colored dress with a high side slit. It’s defined around the waist with a breaded belt and decorated in glitter.
Just imagine how stunning you’ll look in this dress will look with a summer tan? I can already see that glittery green and gold standing out at any party, to be honest!
