How many bridesmaids are in a wedding?

how many bridesmaids are in a wedding

Aside from the usual stress a bride goes through while planning her wedding, comes as well the stress of choosing her bridesmaids. When it comes to the bridal party, there aren’t any wrongs and rights, for each bride and groom have the liberty to choose whoever they want. Nonetheless, a lot of brides get anxious and confused when it’s time to select who they’d want walking down the aisle. The number of bridesmaids is relative to each bride, some decide not to have any, while others decide to have ten, for example.

A wedding can pretty much have any number of bridesmaids, but most commonly, the number is usually three, but anything between one and twelve is normal. Some girls consider a wedding party should be formed of siblings only, so they stick to their sisters.

While other brides love to include their closest friends on their special day. At some point, the bride and groom might feel pressured to abide by certain social rules under the presumptions of what is acceptable and not. This is exactly why it’s vital to communicate your preferences and beliefs beforehand and decide hand-in-hand with your partner. With that being said, a lot of questions come to mind as well:

  • Do bridesmaids pay for their own dresses? Does the bride choose the dresses?
  • Can bridesmaids wear different dresses
  • How many bridesmaids are in a wedding?
  • What does a bridesmaid do? And how to request bridesmaids?

Do bridesmaids pay for their own dresses?

One of the most asked questions regarding the bridesmaids’ dresses is who pays for it. Is the bride responsible for these expenses, or should each bridesmaid pay for herself? The bride often gets confused as to what is the right thing to do. To answer that question you have to follow a few steps.

First of all, consult your budget! If you’re having an extravagant wedding with a specific theme that required the bridesmaids to wear a specific dress, chances are, you’ll have to pay.  And unfortunately, bridesmaids don’t come cheap! So, if you’re the one paying, don’t ask your friends to be bridesmaids unless you can afford it. For each girl you need to pay for: dress, shoes, jewelry and accessories, flowers, food and so much more. Whereas if you’re having a simple wedding with no specific theme, you can ask your bridesmaids to get their own dresses. You can give her pointers to what you would prefer and give her the liberty to choose what she likes.

Can bridesmaids wear different dresses?

When it comes to the color though, it’s totally up to you. Whether you’d prefer to have all the girls wear the same exact dress, or the same exact color, is something you decide. If you’re planning on color coordinating with your theme, then abiding by one color is the right choice. Whereas if you don’t want to limit yourself to one color, you can choose the style in different shades. But, always make sure that it goes with the aesthetic of your wedding, making it comfortable to the eye. It’s very common to choose one color scheme and different dress styles though. So, get your girls ready, and let’s go shopping!

How many bridesmaids are in a wedding?

You might ask yourself, should there be equal numbers of bridesmaids and groomsmen? Well, this is up to discussion with you and your partner. Usually, each bridesmaid is supposed to walk down the aisle arm-in-arm with groomsmen, so yeah, equality is required. But, if you have more close friends than your partner, you can always choose to only have the bridesmaids walk down the aisle. As for the groomsmen, they stand up at the front of the ceremony room with the groom.  At the end of the day, the most important thing is that you have genuine people next to you, so choose quality over quantity. If you have ten close girlfriends that you want by your side, do not hesitate, there isn’t such thing as too many bridesmaids!

What does a bridesmaid do? And how to request bridesmaids?

Well, the answer is very simple actually. A bridesmaid’s role is to assist the Maid of Honor with the wedding-planning duties and help the bride with anything she needs. They also support the bride emotionally and run necessary errands for the big day, including pre-wedding events. Now for requesting bridesmaids, each bride has her own way. Some do a grand proposal, some get them gifts, some make it a social media event, and some simply ask the question! So, get your creative hat on let’s do it!

Sometimes while planning a wedding, we have to make the decisions we find right for us, regardless of the feelings of others. Do not let anyone pressure you into changing your plans and preferences, especially when it comes to your bridesmaids. You’re not obliged to ask a girl to be a bridesmaid if you were hers, nor you’re expected to stick to a certain number. Do what makes you happy and choose your bridal party carefully.

Now that you know. What to do, get ready to start your shopping and put together a cute bridesmaid proposal box!
