Esposa participated in the 10K Walk and Run to put an end to Early and Forced marriages in Lebanon in collaboration with ABAAD as part of 2014 Beirut International Marathon and with the support of UNICEF and OXFAM as part of feeding its CSR (corporate social responsibility).
The event took place on November 9, 2014. Of our honored guests, Ex-Miss Lebanon Emigrant and dancing star Daniella Rahme participated in the Race wearing one of our lovely veils customized for the specific event! The Journalist and TV presenter Maguy Aoun, Executive Director and Drama Therapist, defender for Women's right in prisons Zeina Daccache, Jewelry designer Nada Ghazal and many others gave us their support. The event was covered by LBCI, since it has always had a huge impact on gathering the Lebanese people under one cause, despite the instability of the country. The band performance created a nice ambiance for the runners, especially the Esposa participants who ran with wedding dresses and colored veils, so as to stand out of the crowd.
Child marriage is a traditional practice that in many places happens simply because it has happened for generations – and straying from tradition could mean exclusion from the community. "EVERY YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 15 MILLION GIRLS ARE MARRIED BEFORE THEY TURN 18, ACROSS COUNTRIES, CULTURES AND RELIGIONS. ROBBED OF THEIR CHILDHOOD, DENIED THEIR RIGHTS TO HEALTH, EDUCATION AND SECURITY."
